![]() ![]() We can’t be our own spiritual director because we all have “blind spots” about ourselves. The central aim of spiritual direction is to help guide the directee to purposefully, consistently and substantively grow in their relationship with God and neighbor. Which takes me to 200, a good starting point, although that may well change as things progress.Īs for criteria in choosing each book, I'm going for aims rather than rules, simply because I suspect, from reading others' challenges, it would be nigh on impossible to find books which I can read (eg most will need to be available in translation) that satisfy similar conditions to those I used in my Tour of the USA. + the only continent otherwise not represented in this tour: Antarctica ![]() + the United Kingdom split into its 4 constituent countries (I've read loads of English literature, but little from the others) ![]() +.the 2 observer countries: Vatican City, Palestine + the 193 full member countries the United Nations In terms of places I've decided to start with: Given that I've only just reached the half-way point of my Tour of the USA, it's probably a bit precipitate to start a new challenge, but I think I can handle too, and having seen June complete her journey recently, I'm inspired to get going on mine, so two challenges it is! Unlike Elric, he is a rational, dispassionate sort who dismisses sorcery, in this world practiced by the upstart Mabden. He gets maimed, losing an eye and head, and then falls in love with a Mabden woman. In short order he finds himself virtually the last Vadagh, a complacent, rational, anti-social race that he finds upon venturing out of his castle, almost dead at the hands of the upstart race of man, here called Mabden. The book wastes no time making Corum as a mournful, melancholy figure. I found several things surprising, variations on the other fantasies of the Eternal Champion saga. The Knight of the Swords - I liked this fantasy more than I thought I would, especially since I found out it was based on Cornish mythology. “Introduction” - In a short introduction, Moorcock notes this is only fantasy whose language and mythology derives from a specific source, specifically Cornish. Thorne![]() She spoke only truths because lying distressed her. “I am not always pleasant, but I am beautiful.” This girl saw the world in a different, literal way. “My name means pleasant or beautiful,” she announced. As they talked (and I listened and typed), I realized Na’amah was special. ![]() This unnamed woman had a story, a big story, and she was shouting “Write it!” As I started to explore the possibilities, a scene formed in my mind of a young girl in an ancient culture speaking with her grandmother about the role of women. When I learned that the Bible gave only one brief mention of Noah’s wife, another tabula rosa opened before me. In spite of this, the mural remains on the building, and it is my fervent hope that it speaks to other people every day. A radio station host blasted citywide that I was unstable because I heard walls talking. When that section was ripped away, the repair left the outer wall smooth and white, pristine, a tabula rosa that shouted, “Paint me!” every time I walked by. In the wall’s previous lifetime, it was attached to an adjoining structure. The mural design is a teenager’s winning interpretation of the Birmingham Pledge.
